Lovely Pen Ray. I have brought a couple of these but have not tried them yet.

If you mean the pen kits Vic, they are really nice and very easy. If you mean the blank they are a bugger. The first one blew out just as I drilled through it and this one chipped like hell. I managed to get rid of most of them but there is one chip hidden under the clip.
Yes Ray I mean the kits, I just had a recent order from Timberbits and I had ordered 4 but have yet to have a go at them.
I used to have loads of issues drilling out some of the acrylics in particular the Inlace ones they are very hard.
I think I have solved it now by drilling on the lathe rather than the drill press and cutting on a very slow speed and an even slower feed rate. I also keep clearing the cuttings very regularly. Long winded but proving to be successful in my case.

That's a good tip Terry I hadn't thought of that. I'll try it with the wood blanks too ad I have a problem with tubes sticking part way in. By the way, you say 9mm, I'm using a 27/64th is there any difference? What I do is as you say drill slowly around 450rpm but also as in the case of the lucida drill at 6mm then 7.5mm and then 9mm.This way you don't stress the blank nor overheat it !!!
