I am currently looking for a smallish lathe to add to my smallish shed!!
It will be mainly for pen turning but I will probably want to try turning bowls too.
Have looked at the Charnwood, Axminster and Record lathes and now am completely confused, so if anyone can advise me that would be...
Anyone using the Axminster AT1016VS?
I am thinking of selling my Record CL1 and getting the AT1016VS.
Just wondering what people's opinions are on the little trade machine are?
I currently only turn pens and shaving kits, and I can't see myself ever turning a bowl larger than the 250mm...
Hi guys, i'm finally thinking of upgrading my basic cheap pillar drill. I wanted something with a longer travel and something that is going to last atleast a few years. I have found 3 options that might fit that. I'm not overly knowledgble about drills so any advice would be greatly appreciated...
My first post in anything other than the 'Hello' thread :)
I'm about to pull the trigger and buy a new Axminster Precision Pro lathe.
I'm only going to turn pens and small objects, in both wood and synthetics.
Can anyone think of a reason why I shouldn't?
Thanks,
Karl
Does anyone know of any pink based pen blanks. I have been asked to make a pen and I don't have any home made ones and it is now too cold for me to cast any. I am not looking for a solid pink blank, but one with interest it could have small amounts of other colour. I have looked at Axminster and...
Stop it you dirty minded people. today I have been to the 2017 Woodfest event down here in kent and found some banksia nuts for sale at 3 for £10 and as can be seen quite a nice size. Axminster are also here with a small gazebo also selling them at £6.95 each and they where smaller.

I have tried different mandrels and other bushes the bushes are fom axminster measured them today and they are not 100% round so any advice of how to cure problem or is it a case of just getting...
Hello.

Hello All.
I am very much a beginner at pen making/woodturning although I did occasionally use my Dad's lathe about 30 or so years ago and have kept all of his woodworking tools (but not the lathe). I spent some time researching lathes and equipment and eventually deciding I was mainly...
I have been given an axminster precision pen turning lathe which comes with a 24x1 collet and axminster evolution mandrel. I have my full size lathe as well am am finding this second small lathe is great for doing my pens. The collet system is great but I would live to be able to drill my blanks...
Being new to pen turning I'm trying to get up to speed quickly. I'd like to be able to turn various styles of pen.
I bought the Axminster deluxe compression mandrel and a couple of pen kits and their bushes.
I'm happy with the pens as a start. (took piccys with my IPhone, not good)
Maybe we...
Hi all, hope you have all recovered from "lack of Shed time" over the holidays and are all back in the swing.
Can anyone advise me. A customer has asked for a Vertex Premium Chrome Magnetic fountain pen, with a fine nib. He has chosen some Bog Oak to dress it in, so I'm ready to go, however...
Howdy folk!
I've only been working with wood for the past 2 years, mainly on a scroll saw, but in that time have built up a nice little workshop (or at least the desire for more!)
I'm here due to having a brilliant wife who, hearing me say many moons ago that I would like to get into turning...

Just out of interest, does anybody have the Axminster 6 Pen Display (acrylic)? I have just received one, and it looks quite nice, but I'm finding that a slight knock on the table and all the pens fall down. To me, the little divets where the nib seats just doesn't seem deep enough to hold the...
I just thought I would spread the love and let you all know that I've seen Axminster have started selling Phoenix Rising, Dragon Twist and a few others from PSI, Just in case you didn't know
