I posted images of the rough blanks for these a few weeks ago but have been without a lathe until the past few days.
A few hours has been spent spinning, polishing and finishing.
These are the completed pens - a dozen of them - all made in acrylic polymer and mounted on these matching Black...
I had picked up a bunch of different blanks from southernpendesigns on Etsy and paired them with some Siroccos just to see...
...The first is Gun Metal/Gold on a "Black Gold 31" blank
...This one is Brushed Copper dressed with "Black Gold #3"
...Brushed Pewter and "Mercury 21"
...And Gun...
This is a great kit! I ended up with one as a gift - gold fountain format - and I chose an acrylic blank ("Black Gold #3 by southernpendesigns on Etsy). Looking forward to getting more of these...and it's really easy to picture this becoming an everyday pen for me. Shape, size, weight...
Spent a bit of time today constructing some polymer clay blanks. Not made any of them in the past couple of years, but nice to spend some time doing these and am reasonably pleased with the outcomes.
Not sure yet whether I'll just turn, sand and CA them or to clean them up and resin coat them...
Some new colors I'm working on and I needed some inventory for a craft show I'm doing next month. Thankfully I had a stash of Sirocco kits around :)
The black and blue is fun... Blue glow in the dark powder in that one. I am mildly partial to the metallic blue and purple though.
Just to add to the interest around Black Palm
I made this one - with X cut Black Palm a couple of weeks ago.
I chose the wood/grain to particularly match with this Antique Bronze 'Art Deco' style kit - which I think works quite nicely.

The recent thread on the weird Black Palm has prompted me to post these two I made recently.
Beaufort Sirocco in Brushed Pewter, really nice plating like it a lot.
TM Kappa I think really goes well with the Palm.

Black Palm Scales on Maple by Kenneth Wines that I turned and finished with 6 coats of MINWAX Clear Satin Polyurethane using my Dipping Method to get that wood feel.
I find using a Gloss finish on wood makes it look and feel too much like the plastic look that you get with a CA finish.
Dressed...
I had a go with some Black Palm today!!!! I made sure all the tools required were sharp, but this is a stubborn fibrous wood!! I'm posting this pen because I had to overcome many issues and in the end, I have a pen I'm fairly happy with, even if it is just for a family member rather than for...
I used blue ebonite (with slight black grain lines) for the barrel and cap of this pen. The trim is done with black ebonite, and the white rings were credit cards in their last lives. (It was actually my secretary’s AARP card, though I am certain that she is far too young for membership.) The...
Here's another Sirocco. Black one this time.
This was a good lesson for me in choosing blanks.
The blank I picked was very dark and gloomy, just glimmers of red in there. I thought it would go well with the black Sirocco.
When I turned it, it really brightened up. Polished up, it looks...
This is a Zeta kit.
The blank is a really interesting black and orange mix. Quite translucent, it really glows to the eye.
This is the first piece of acrylic I've ever turned. Carbide tools on a teeny Precision Pro lathe.
Yes Glen, I finally made something
The Zeta is a great kit, I...
Anyone know where I can get white or grey velvet style pen cases. I have no problem sourcing the black velvet style ones but white/grey ones seem to be like hens teeth.
Another African Blackwood heat sensitive. The wood changed from black to this colour after being in my pocket for about 5min. There is a choice of 6 colours it could change into depending on how long the heat is applied. When the pen cools down it goes back to black.
