This is a pen I entered in a "pretty wood" contest. There were MANY pens. I didn't win but I made it through 3 rounds.
Buckeye on a magnetic Graduate, CA finish. This pen looks a lot better in person.
My first of this kit and i already love it. This and the Mistral are easily my favourite 2 fountain pen kits. I stopped using a Ca finish on my Bog Oak a long time ago. Now i sand it, use sealer, sand it back then rub with denatured alcohol and a dark bees wax. Leaves a beautiful natural finish...
Last turned platter from spalted beech, just fine sanded but no finish on it yet. Depends of the final use, melamine or food safe finish.
Diameter is 290 mm and 50 mm high.

Well, I decided this weekend to try out the Melamine finish technique that Phil (kindly) shared with us.
I followed it to the letter except for thinning the sealer, mainly because I didn't have any thinners!
However, the sanding and burnishing with the shavings gave me one of the smoothest pens...
On the IAP there is talk of a finish that uses Black Light to set it, touted as better than, far superior to CA etc.
Our Dentists are using similar glues etc every time they get a chance so it must be relatively safe along with mercury based fillings being phased out.
The usual talk of high...
Thanks to everyone who voted for my entry, it really means a lot.
It's made from Red Mallee Burl, on an Executive pen kit. The finish is CA, sanded and then buffed with buffing compound.
