    Magnets

Every now and then I make a piece which uses magnets, very often they are hidden ie sunk into the wood or behind a panel so I need some fairly powerful magnets and also a self adhesive magnetic surface. One the one occasion that I made a suspended piece I needed magnets that would repel...

    Greetings from Cornwall

Hi all, Many thanks for adding me to you forum. I'm an engineer by trade and for many years have been making a range of steam engines and clocks so my Cornish workshop is kitted out for metal turning, milling etc. Little did I know that my grandson would accidentally introduce me to the grand...

    First attempts.

Hello all. New to this forum and pretty much to turning in general. Hopefully I've managed to attach some pictures of pens we've made recently. I say "we" as most were made with varying amounts of involvement from a number of young lads I work with on the family farm. All of them have struggled...

    First kitless pen

I just made my first kitless pen. Man it was tricky. Kudos to all you guys who make this look so easy. I spent ages designing and planning it up front but lots of things happened during the build that I hadn't catered for. Also I made a pretty basic mistake in my dimensions during the design...

    Dulcimer

I made an acoustic bass guitar a couple of winters ago and made this dulcimer from the left-over materials last winter. Dulcimer means "sweet sound" though not when I am playing.

    Hi from Wales

Hi I live in Cardiff and I’ve been woodturning for quite a while, but it was only last week that I made my first ever pen. I’ve made a couple more since and even managed to ruin one, (at least I’ve learnt that those things are really hard to pull apart and it’s best to get it right first time)...

    Successful couple of weeks

I haven’t posted much for a while having been on an enforced slow down after the surgeons decided that they want to play with the zipper they stuck in my chest 3 times since September. Anyway I'm back at 95% functionality (it won’t get more than that), and I have had a successful couple of...

Show us your Home made jigs and racks

Going on from the post about tool racks on another forum would people like to share either homemade rack and or jigs they have made to aid them when turning. I will start off with the chisel racks and a router holder, there is a depth collar which is adjustable by the black star knob but not...

    New member hi

A quickie thread to say hello. From the south of the UK and totally new to wood turning and pens. Good with tools but not used a lathe until now. Have made parts for bikes and custom bits for cars but only basic stuff. G/F came home with a lathe for herself a few weeks ago and I’ve got...
