DIY friction polish....hmmm.
Decided I'd try and make my own so I trawled the trusty youtube and found exactly what I needed.
Now I'm not one to take the word of the first person I see /...
Turning went well with the African blackwood, but the scratches were so difficult to get out despite using a screw at the end and going 400 grit to 12000 polish, also not impressed with the kit, the lid is a fraction off because the barrel provided is too long
My lathe, chuck, pen jaws, Jacobs chuck, mandrel starter set and micro mesh are in to the shop on Tuesday. (but can't collect till Saturday!!!!?)
I already have my carbide tools, medium super glue and activator.
Turners sanding pack and face shield and a few pen blanks ordered.
Will I need...
My grandson has an order for 15 pens, so had to get in there the last few days to give him a helping hand to replace the ones he sold as it wiped his stock out...:sob:

Quick question for you.
I've just made my first hybrid pen.
It is about 50/50 blue optic-cast resin and stabilised poplar burl.
I've have taken it back to 12000 grit and it looks great.... but....
If it was a wood pen, I would now finish it using the Melamine technique, if it was acrylic I...
I have just got a tin of Chestnut Friction Polish and noticed is says you don't need to use sanding sealer. As I am about to run out of sealer is it necessary to use it and if so which is the best fast drying one.

Finish - through the grades ad resin polish finish.
