Hi there, hope everyone's keeping well?
Haven't been on since before Christmas due to work pressures - and it's going to stay that way for a while too :sob:
I just took a quick look at the "Pen of the Week" forum - some real belters there
Anyway, I'll drop in from time to time to see...
Sometimes, something really nice "turns" up when you work with driftwood. The colour on this one is really rich - a gift for my sister's chap. He's an engineer by trade and works for one of the big names in F!. He thinks it's brilliant - works for me!! Not sure I'll get my head through the door...
Another driftwood pen with blue dye. There were a couple of inclusions which I filled with aluminium, and the finished pen looks a bit like Earth from space :thinks:
Used iPhone for photos and couldn't get a nice exposure
Well I managed to get some time in the workshop today with allot of intentions of turning.
This was the result of my days work, well if you can call 12:00 to 16:00 with plenty of sit down breaks..:rolling:
I had originally planned to do some slimlines just to ease myself back in to the fold...
This is what I was working on before I was ill
Is it worth finishing when I get better:thinks: comments please you will not offend me. Also can any one identify the wood its sitting on :thinks: I want to use it for a couple of Pepper mills as soon as I am better :praying
Hi made this t light holder and after doing the pyro work, my plan was to use my newly acquired airbrush to colour the leaves. My wife said she would prefer it if I didn't colour it.
But I went ahead and did it anyway. Who was right?
:thinks:
I fancy having a go at making some Dip Pens. I have had a look on the Internet for a UK supplier but could not find any.
Does anyone know where I can get kits for this project :thinks:
Need help on identifying this wood, I started to turn this bowl today, just thought it was Mahogany now i'am not so sure so can anyone tell me for sure what it is and would it be ok for a Salad bowl? :thinks:
My Son gave me these 25 mm ply off cots now to decide what to do with them :thinks::thinks: 38 of these 8 of these & 1 off . Is ply any good for Pen blanks :thinks:
I do quite a few markets in the local area mainly in the summer and I have now reduced winter to 2 from 10. Apart from the pens which form a major stock in trade I get asked for mainly what the French call 'La Vaisselle' which loosely translated into English means the 'washing up' .... Logical...
I'm on the lookout for some nice blanks for custom pens and I was wondering, has anyone here threaded Yunstone and was it okay being threaded? :thinks:
Haven't turned a pen since I demolished five serpentine blanks so had a go at turning a bowl
I believe the wood is sycamore (could be wrong though)
will now have to figure out how to remove the holding piece on the bottom :thinks:
As the title are we pen turners dying off or a growing family? Me thinks it is slowly dying and also another thought is that the internet is now saturated with sellers of kits etc is this good or bad for them or even us :thinks:
