    Tool rests - coated?

Hi. Time for another odd question ? I may have mentioned before that I have i nflammatory arthritis... And so have dodgy hands and odd lumps and bumps! And unique ways of holding my tools (or is that just because I'm left handed?!) :whistling: I wanted to ask if anyone knew of a tool rest...

    To much rain

Huge storm yesterday. Over 8" of rain in a 6 hour time frame. Creek behind the house over flowed its banks. 2" of water in my basement that backed up through the floor drain. My vegetable patch is probably done now as it's saturated with chemicals washed out of the farm fields. 3rd time...

    Faith, Hope and Love

Turned another Faith, Hope and Love pen today. In my mind they are not perfect as I think I should have spent a bit more time polishing them. I am still learning.....

    Morning!

Morning pen turners, and thank you for letting me join the gang. I feel like a beginner, though I have been pen turning for nearly a year and made a few other things too. Like I imagine most people feel, I'd love to have more time to practice and get better at it. Be prepared for some newbie...

    New Scroller

Hi ya all, I'm a new scroller from Derbyshire, I got my first saw at Christmas last year (2019) and quickly got hooked, I'd not done any woodwork of any kind since leaving school, and that was more years than I care to remember ago, I'm retired so I do have time to give to my new hobby along...

    A real "sheducation"

Well it’s taken a pandemic virus, long term lockdown and possible global economic collapse for me to justify spending some quality time in my shed at last. So I’ve tried to make the most of the time and I’ve had a go at making my own clips. This example is hammered bronze paired with krinite...

    Feathered bowl

Thought it about time I did some turning so took a couple of hours out from doing the garden and working on another bowl which seems to be taking forever. Not sure of the wood as it is an old rough turned piece from some time ago which did not have any bark or leaves to identify it. Finished...

    After pen boredom

Following the Tempest marathon, I got fed up with pens for a while so I went back to the jewellery box making and with so much time on my hands I got a bit carried away. Just need to round over the edges and sand and finish these 2 So while one is gluing then you start to make the next. So...

The 3 word story is back. Please join in.

I don't suppose any of us want to make pens ALL day long, so here's a tiny way to help the time pass. Contribute to the story, but you can only use three words until someone else has posted after you. You might want to review the story from time to time - cross posts can take it out of...

    Limited workshop time

I am going to have limited workshop time over the next couple of weeks. I now need to pull down one of my wood stores due to damage from the winds. It has done well as it has been up for so long. Lost the roof to start with but luckily not directly over the wood and bowl blanks My wife and I...

Fancy Trim rings and Redwood Lace Burl

Several years ago I did a bunch of pens with trim rings like these. I haven't taken the time to do one recently, so here is my latest attempt.

pup and rabbit carvings - update

Unusually for me I've actually finished something, well as much as I ever will, trouble with carving is that every time you look you want to get the chisels out and cut a little more. Anyway the little miss will be pleased when she sees the puppy but my missus nabbed the wabbit so I'll have to...

Been wasting time in the workshop again

Not woodwork, well there is at least a bit of burr elm there. No wonder I don't have time to make pens. :thinks: The missus is pleased with them but Bob's bored now so started a little carving for the granddaughter. Made from scrap copper pipe of various sizes from 6mm up.

    Introducing myself

Hi all, I probably should have done this before starting my own thread, but here goes. I am new to woodturning, but not to woodwork. I have been a musical instrument maker professionally since 1986, having made my first instrument in 1981 when I was at school. I make keyboard instruments...
