What makes a good winning pen?

Hi all, I was wondering what people look for when judging a pen. Is it curves, colour, type of wood/finish or design/model/make ? Obviously, the turning has to be good i.e no scrathes etc and the item fits together well. What do members especially looking for? Cheers Frederick

    Two boxes

Two boxes turned today the spalted one was very punky so a good soak in thinned sander sealer and left to dry before turning did the trick along with some very sharp tools. Many people ask about turning punky wood and this shows it can be done. The second is American Black Walnut the lid it...

    Upgrading

I've had a lot of couples coming for bowl turning courses recently. This has led to me having to take courses in the garage workshop, rather than the Atelier teaching space. It's also been a bit awkward asking who wants the big one and who wants the smaller one!:winking::funny: Spent most of...
