Why?
Why buy BOW, when you can have YOW (York Olive Wood)!:funny:

If you Pm me your address Bob, I'll send you some to try!
Perhaps this tells you why I buy from Bethlehem. The 2 organisations I supply are very interested in the religious side for selling.
These pens are made from OLIVE WOOD from the historic and Holy Lands around BETHLEHEM.
.
The wood comes straight from Bethlehem through Jerusalem, the Holy Land.
Olive wood trees from the ancient city of Bethlehem, Israel (also known as Roman trees) have been bearing fruit since the time of the Romans. Many religious, historical, and artistic articles are made from this beautiful ancient wood. The Olive tree is a slow growing tree and can live for many hundreds of years. Reaching the age of 200 the trunk disappears, shoots develop at the base of the trunk and eventually grow into a new tree, hence the Olive tree is known as the “Immortal tree”.
The people of the Holy Land protect the trees refusing to ever cut them down.
In the middle of October (Harvest Season), the people of the Holy land pick the Olive trees.
They squeeze some olives and harvest some olives to eat.
Moreover, the Olive tree has both a sentimental and religious significance to all nations and all religions and especially for Christians.
The Bible demonstrates the importance of the Olive tree. For instance, the Bible frequently refers to the Olive tree as a symbol of fertility and prosperity. Besides, it is known that the Olive tree symbolises peace, this comes from the Old Testament. A dove was sent by Noah after the Great Flood in order to find land. The dove came back carrying an Olive branch.
Also it is said that Jesus prayed underneath an Olive tree in the Garden of Gethsemane after the Last Supper.

Purchase includes certificates of authenticity and labels.
Note: no tress were damaged or destroyed in the process of harvesting this wood

That's what they tell you and if you believe it then fine.
I am sorry to be cynical but I think the truth of it is they buy the olive wood in from Italy and Spain then sell it off with there little certificate.
I have purchased some in the past and won't make that mistake again.
The protect ed trees you mention are exactly that, the authorities will not allow them to be harvested and sold commercially.
Your olive wood has only been to Bethlehem it never grew there and was not harvested from a protected tree.

I do apologise Glen, There is obviously an understanding.
There is a very free attitude on this forum, and long may it remain so!
The post you have quoted was aimed at Lons (Bob), I made a separate post to comment on your work.
I have no intention of discussing religion in any shape or form!
Regards,
Neil

I have read many things about BOW sold with provenance certificates being a scam. There has been so much about it that I am not sure where the truth lies maybe in between, but I won't buy any. Neil lawton has superb quality olive and now I know it is YOW it is even more precious.

Glen as a happy user of Olive wood over many years I have so many of those certificates in the drawer and I know that copies of the authentication have been misused. Not willing to discuss the provenance of any Olive wood i would say how well you have presented the magnifying glass you made and welcome your contributions. It was a wry smile when you said you had to use Olive Wood most people would be very happy to as well including me.

Kind regards Peter.:claps:

Regarding BOW ....It is a massive world wide business selling this stuff . I believe that there just isn't enough unprotected trees in the area to supply the vast amounts being sold, so it must be being imported like Grump says from countries all around the Med ; where in many places it is used as firewood.
