ok having managed to hobble to the lathe to find I don't have any wood (been routing through the loft ,the bin, even been eying up the legs on that coffee table I never liked!! but was told no!!!) so I have been using polymer clay as a medium for a while now and happened upon a video and thought why not so 1st attempt ever and I have chipped the edge but even so Tadah!!

Well that is absolutely fantastic. Polymer clay is a new one to me but looks super and for a first attempt that pen is turned and finished very nice indeed.

HHHmmm Polymer clay do you actually turn that on the lathe or roll around the pen tubes?
Nice pen though either way.
How does it feel?

I rolled the clay around the tube ,then baked it then I turned it, its a bit brittle ....hence chips on the edges also the tube fell out so trying some liquid clay on tube first before adding proper clay that should secure it
I know its not woodturning but I don't have a bench drill or any wood (or any blanks) so I'm just using what I have to hand but at least I can have a go using the lathe until I can get some proper materials

Excuses Excuses. drill on the lathe, turn between centres, go and find some wood use a handsaw just do it init?

Proper material it is Roy there are a number of devotees on the IAP in the USA forum who specialise in this medium one lady in particular who constructs to a gallery standard have a gaze over there. She sells on the for sale through big time member dealers.

Go for it mate.
