Other than the Nibs and Clips i have everything to start making some Kitless pens. I had a few weeks booked this month but had to cancel them due to work commitments. Now i have a week booked near the end of the month instead. This is when i intend to make the start ..

I have a guy coming over tomorrow teatime to talk through the metal lathe with me and give me a few pointers. Looking forward to getting started. I know a supplier for the Nibs ( :winking: ), just need to find one now for the Clips ..

Is anyone else ready for this task?? :thinks:

Great stuff Jim.

Look forward to seeing your work Jim, I have all the gear and now added a full set of Bock taps rather then just a taper tap to my armory now as well.

So it might rekindle my enthusiasm and get me making them again as only done one since my Dad passed away, and that was because it was a commissioned pen before he passed away.

I can honestly say I have no wish to see anyone on this forum "Kitless"
Mental images abound and I now feel slightly sick!:vomit::down:

Clips. What do you need from a clip I wonder? I'd love to hear what kitless makers people have to say, and we may end up with a Beaufort kitless clip selection. Now there's a paradox.

Yes Jim I am ready for you to go into making pens your way without a purchased kit I will be interested in whether you go clipless into fountains whose ink methods you choose the shape you end up with how you get on with threading timber, the real time and money expended overall and the final product saleability and real satisfaction you apparently crave its a big deal really how will you select nib brands and widths? The preparation time is nearly over I would be interested in your before during and after experiences and wish you success mate.

clips with a 0.5mm tang would be good so they can be drilled and fitted with a rotary tool - but a true kit less you should be making your own?

You will have to make your own clip and your own section else it's not kitless, don't forget you will need a die for the section. The clamour for kitless is a red herring just enjoy the journey and use the components you need to use.

I agree with you guys, but to get started i had the intention of using bought clips until i felt confident in what i was doing .. I also had in mind of casting my own clips, but need to look at this more in depth ..
