But then I also like loud heavy metal...
They either got a few in to test the water, or they are good sellers as they are out of stock ..
More on the nautical pen - here's a couple in sharp focus (courtesy of Toni Ransfield on IAP). The phrase "lipstick on a pig" keeps going through my mind.
Oh - and BTW if you ever start thinking your polymer clay work is even adequate take a quick gander at Toni's canes. You'll probably never touch polymer clay again ...
Welcome to the forum Ed.
I think the issue is not with the quality of the kit but that many people (me included) find it a bit over the top in terms of "bling".
David's "lipstick on a pig" comment simply suggests that Toni's exquisite blanks are wasted on such a kit and would be better gracing something more tasteful. Perhaps it is an expression that has not found its way across the Atlantic.
Am quite familiar with the expression and it's common over here as well.
The fact that most here are missing is this. This is a THEME oriented pen kit. Most of these are slated for desk display to the devotee, i.e. navy, marinetime serivces, sea life, sailing, boating, fishing crowds. To the people in these (mentioned) arenas this kit is not over the top.
In this regards Toni's work is a perfect match to this kit.
Point I am trying to make here is it's not about us as pen makers but more about who it is going to that matters.
Consider this, you are approached to make a pen for an admiral who has spent 20 years in the navy. ... What pen kit would you first think of using for this project?
I will make any style of pen the customer's heart desires
Something with a bit of class, not one that looks like it came from a jamboree bag.
You are entitled to your opinion Ed but I can't agree with it.
We differ there Walter I make what I want, not what customer wants.
They either like it or don't have it simples int?
The nautical is not a 'bad' pen kit overall. Essentially it's a modified sierra with 'bling'. This is a new series design so expect some product changes. So far the only things I have noted is the transmission and one of the pewter kits had some epoxy pooling in the cap.
I've never really browsed PSI before but I see they've created a pen for Chas
