So CA finish?

First question how do you remove bushings that you've managed to super glue into the tubes.......just for reference mind...... not that I did this last night at all....
Secondly is there a good guide or video tutorial for a CA finish? I always seem to get a really untidy section at the end of each blank.

Thanks Again All

First listen to other solutions before attempting but I did see the guys in Axminster just tap gently the gap between bushings with a chisel to snap / loosen the issue...

I avoid the glueing to the bushes by undercutting them and using calipers to get the finished size of the blank. There is no need to overload with CA to get a build up on the ends.

Acetone will dissolve CA.

To stop it happening in the first place, many put a dab of wax on the ends of the blanks - between blank and bush. Others remove the kit bushes after final sanding and put home made delrin cones there in their place. Another solution is to just hold the sanded blank between a dead centre in the headstock and a live centre in the tailstock.

If you're struggling top get out a glued in bush, find something to slip up the tube from the other end, and knock it out from within. You could invest in a set of transfer punches. If you google them, your screen will light up with places to buy them, and before too long they will also come in handy for that time when you need to dis-assemble a pen. Everybody reaches that time sooner or later, even the most experienced of makers, and transfer punches are to tools of choice to do the job.

I’m my my earlier days when I slightly glued the blank to the bushings, I found that I could just snap the bushing away from the blank with my hands without any damage, nowadays I always use HDPE bushings.

Apply some paste wax to the live and dead centers and do you finishing between centers without bushings.
I don't do much CA finishing.
Found another product that is easier to apply resulting in a consistent, durable finish that will stand up to any CA finish.

There is as many different ways to do CA finish as there are turners Andy.

But as for the bushes you could use what Terry Q said and use cone bushes.

I make my own out of either Derlin rod or mild steel. In effect I found it doesn’t matter too much with cones s they don’t actually touch the part that you are adding the CA too.

But to be honest if I were you I would move away from CA and use either melamine or another suitable lacquer.

I do use the chestnut melamine and also other quick drying finishes. Some even use car lacquer as well.

Melamine or acrylic lacquer Andy depending on whether you want satin or shiny finish. I’m sure Walter and Phil have tutorials on the subject somewhere on the forum.

I've just been reading Phil's Tutorial on Melamine finishing. I'm assuming from the replies that this gives a more satin finish which is something I personally really like.

Les used his own method. Called the “dipping” method.

I thought there was a link on here at one time but can’t find it.

I have tried it but not had a the time to focus on it to get the finish that Les does. I think that may also be down to the type of material he uses as well tho.

have a look on IAP as I know it was in there.
