I made this in November and the article came out in December but I was so busy teaching I forgot to post it here.
Thought you lot might like this!

I was asked to make a Cannon ball bowl which intriqued me somewhat!
Apparently it is a tradition in Sweden to make a Mustard sauce to go with a Christmas fish course. The mustard seeds are crushed by putting them in a wooden bowl and swirling a cannon ball over them in the bowl. The wood is traditionally Birch as is this with a Spalted stand for the ball to sit on when not in use. The ball is a 6 pounder that came up from building work in York and the bowl is just over 10" x 4"

Great looking bowl Neil,:thumbs::thumbs:

Like never heard of these, I used to work with a lot of Scandinavian blokes they obviously left my education lacking.
But they loved their lutefisk, I never tried it, on a mid 40°C day in a non A/C room, just the smell just about made me :vomit:

Nice piece and you learn something new everyday. Enjoyed a Swedish dinner on Christmas Eve this year including the fish and mustard sauce ( very nice by the way) but no one mentioned the cannon ball!

Something new to me. Well done. Would they have used a round rock before iron?

I've no idea to be honest. The article shows a traditional farmstead wooden bowl from the 19th century and some modern ones in ceramic and cast iron so the tradition obviously lives on.
