Putting your bloody fingers next to a spinning blade is the big deal init?
One slip or lapse of concentration ain't gonna do the same if it's laying flat on a stone is it?
If your gonna do them sort of tricks then fix the plate to the tailstock and keep your mitts out of the way.
A bit of commonsense needs applying dunnit?

Only a total doombrain would condone or recommend this action.

If the consensis is light rubs on a diamond plate whats a big deal in that.

Peter.

The consensis (majority suggestion simply to lay the cutter down and rub lightly) is the overall without the high speed treatment this is what I refer to if my referral was another I would quote it be sure I value my fingers.

Hello, Bob,

Thanks for the reference, and the link to the video.

And as for buying sharpening jigs: Two years ago I bought the latest Tormek + all the accessories, which cost me around £400. I thought this was gonna be the gateway to smoking pleasure as far as chisel sharpening was concerned. Six months later I'd worn a valley in the stone that is as deep as the Grand Canyon! Since then I've tried other methods without any real success, and now make do with the edge I can get from my bench grinder. It's probably true that I could perform a lobotomy more easily than I can sharpen anything! LOL!

Bob.

Hi Bob,

I am not very gifted like some in the sharpening department either and tried with the bench grinder and then with the Robert Sorby jigs and the bench grinder but still managed to make a dogs breakfast of it I ended up buying the pro edge and have not looked back. It is strange because I can sharpen plane blades and chisels by hand to surgical sharpness but let me near a grinder and I will spend an hour messing it up and an hour attempting to get it back to where I started. Think you will like the carbide cutters they do last some time before they need a sharpen.

Wot the is he bloody bendy or wot that has to be the most stupid and dangerous way to sharpen a tip
Unbelievably stupid. Besides the danger aspect, I would think he's going to wear out diamond sharpening cards at a rate of knots, chamfer off the edges of the carbide bit, because he wasn't holding the card flat against it. Some people just don't think before posting videos like that on the net :rolling:
