Thanks Bob for sharing the problems to look out for.

Very annoying especially considering the price of these vehicles.

If I end up with one it will probably be secondhand and hopefully have most of the snagging problems sorted.

Cheers,
Paul.

I arranged to have one fitted reasonably at a local dealer who said no more than an hour or so but when there changed his mind, would need it a full day as he couldn't find the cables where they should be and it would be much more expensive, so I bought the aerial and decided to do it myself.

I couldn't find them either so spent a whole day running 2 cables through tight places and when I tried to get them up behind the wardrobe I couldn't. It was only then I noticed some hidden fixings so removed 6 screws which released a panel and there were all 4 aerial ends plus the 12 volt for the amplifier and 240v I wanted for the microwave.:duh:
There followed much screaming abuse and foul language :rant:which sent the poor dog running to hide and then took me only 30 minutes to fit.

Anyone else ever felt such an RRs as that?:goesred:

Hi Bob,
Why DAB doesn't 'work' in the UK
Did you know, for instance, that many DAB radio stations in the UK are broadcast at just 64kbps "mono" using the MP2 codec? Do not adjust your screen that really is just 64kbps. That really is "mono" not stereo.
That really is MP2 and not MP3.

To put that into context, MP2 is a less efficient codec than MP3, so that 64kbps figure is more like 48kbps in MP3. And that, is actually offensive.

Opinions vary on what makes for decent music quality in the MP3 codec. That's especially true if the context is in-car radio where background noise is prevalent.
So that,s why the BBC is keeping the old radio going for many years with full stereo sound.
So for me, ditch the DAB radio, and buy a new top radio with CD and USB connections. Music to my ears!
Kelvin

I can get pretty decent DAB in my car with almost no drop outs Kelvin though I'm not a music expert so don't really know whether good quality or not. Sounds ok to me. The m/h however is so bad that initially I thought it was totally defunct, it's not as I got some signals when we took it away last week but it drops out continuously so issue is with the aerial.

Not in a position to ditch the radio. It's a double din Pioneer AVH-Z5000DAB and also a matching AVIC-F160-2 sat nav module. The saving grace though is that it does have a DVD player and USB input so no shortage of MP3 music to take with us it's just that I sometimes want to check traffic info etc but also that the bloody thing is sitting there, brand new and doesn't deliver what's expected !!!!!

No real option of rejecting it as you would when buying a car, far too complicated and excuse is the DAB coverage as you point out. I'm going to get some advice from a specialist car audio dealer but not in a hurry.

That thought had crossed my mind Neil but Sue wouldn't go as she still isn't very mobile. I'm not 100% sure I can make it this year though going to do my best and would most likely be the Saturday so will keep a look out for your unmistakable grey tresses. Or has the lovely Ali chopped them off yet?

I dye it grey as I got sick of people going on about how youthful I looked!:whistling:

So thats the long and short of hair ,here today and gone tomorrow. I was always happy to have an abundance in my youth. Recently I made the choice a violin or a haircut.
