I just weighed the blanks again and this morning they're 900g. Thats over 10% of the weight lost in 13hrs.

I think I could have. I put 3 in the oven this morning and while they've split a bit, its only at the ends. I might have a go at turning one later to make sure they're ok and if so I'll put a few more in the oven and send them to you. I'll also leave the others on the top so that they dry a bit slower and don't split and then send them to you. Hopefully you'll have plenty of choice come D day though.

I just weighed them again and they're now 812g

This is one of the blanks I cooked in the oven. So probably one of the most impatient pens I've made: less than 24hrs from cutting down to pen.
This is one of the blanks that had some pith in it so not such a good one but I wanted to give it a go.

Never going to be a stunner for grain etc. , but I reckon that is pretty good Paul, and fits the bill admirably!

Brilliant job and I am so grateful!

Hi Golss
I've got a good amount of elder(berry), fully dry and ready to turn. PM with me your address and I'll bung a couple in the mail to you. Have them with my compliments.
Full of myth and folklore...

Regards
Dave

Hi Guys,

Hope you are all ok, and busy spinning wood!

I know I haven't been around much and as you know I am not doing much turning at the moment!

However I have been asked by a friend to do a pen for his wife's birthday, problem is it needs to be in Elder, so does anyone happen to have a couple of blanks they can sell me?

Thanks in advance.

Elder is the favoured wood for wizard's wands. Sold loads of it to that Harry Potter bloke...
When the trunk is big enough, it's quite a nice wood; smooth, firm, pale yellow, rather like a less dense boxwood.

I just weighed the blanks again and now they're 644 grams. I think the're almost dry but worth leaving for a few more days. It shows just how much water is held by Elder.

I picked up some Elder at the last club raffle. You can have that if you want.
I will have a look in the morning and get the size of it.
EDIT Sorry I am so late, just back from holiday and catching up with forums.

The blanks have now been 585g for a few days and ready for turning. A pretty amazing amount of water it was holding
