Well I've moved slightly onwards in wood turning and decided to have a crack at a segmented vase...this is a picture of it this morning, the final glue up before it goes on the lathe, to be honest I'm having to change my underwear quite frequently every time I think about putting this on the lathe. I've put a Mortis on the base ready for it to go in the chuck, but have you got any advice or tips on turning this? I'm scared!!!

Hi Miles
if you are worried about it, cut the piece of mdf you have roughly to the shape of the top, glue it to the top, when dry mount in the chuck, then you can bring your tailstock up for extra support, turn your outside to the shape you want, then part through the middle of the mdf and turn off the band of mdf, or use a disc of timber the same way and it will give you a contrasting rim
cheers
Andy

I think you will be surprised how easily it turns. Segmented pieces like this are long grain. You won't have any cross grain to worry about. It stands easier as well.

I did my first segmented bowl the other day and yes when it's in the lathe, on sloooww, it looked horrendous thrashing about. And that was with the corners nipped off.
As terry says it does come off surprisingly well. In my vast knowledge, ok non existent, take small very cuts till you get it round. You will love it when it's done.
