NOTE TO PHIL: I posted here as part of the project is a pen but please move if in the wrong place.
This is one of those projects "designed", if I use the term loosely, on the back of an envelope and developed as it progressed.
My granddaughter is an enthusiastic Harry Potter fan so I decided to make her a standard wand, then a pen to go with it followed by a box to put it in, I haven't yet decided how on earth I'm going to make it cast real spells though.
The wand and pen ae out of walnut and ash with a crystal and bead pinched from my daughter, the box is approx 480 x 100 x 70 mm made from mahogany of some kind. continuing the mitred corners through the lid was deliberate but likely a mistake as it has sharpish corners and I inserted a magnet to keep the lid closed.
The wood burning was a first for me although I bought the machine from a boot sale 30 years ago I've never used it.
