At Neil's fundraising event Geordie (from the WWI forum) gave me a branch of berberis. It is a fine yellow colour and very nicely figured. I managed to get several pen blanks from it and this Baron roller ball pen is the first to be made from it. Finished with acrylic lacquer:

C&C welcome

Edit: Forgot to mention, I adjusted the position of the lights to minimise reflections and show off the figure of the wood. The finish is actually a high gloss.

It certainly is beautiful wood and it's a great looking pen apart from the finger prints:thumbs:

I thought it was sawdust or light reflection - anyways, nice pen that Walter, certainly a nice bit o wood

It is indeed sawdust on the writing tip, but there is also a fingerprint on the barrel tip. Careless of me not to give it a wipe. :goesred:

Thanks for your comments.

Okay, who are you and what have you done with Walter!

The real Walter should now have enough CA build up to not leave fingerprints:funny:

Sawdust is not allowed in Walter's workshop, let alone find its way on to a pen nib!
Imposter!:face:

Nice pen by the way!:funny:

Thats a lovely piece of wood indeed. I have some Berberis which is plain yellow and some Sumach which looks like yours. I'll have to get some more to get the grain.
