Welcome to the forum Phil. I see you have already had some useful feedback. It is amazing, no matter what the question there is usually someone on here who knows the answer.

It's cold here, fire is alight enjoying the rugby

Is that the game where England came from behind, read a lot about how their coach, ex Aussie coach toughened up the team with his high expectations and rigorous fitness expectations, close finish.

I note that the no 1 Morse Taper is barely a 1/2 inch on the large end not much room in there for a draw bar, a chck threaded to the shaft sounds so much better.

Yes Phil, my lathe is very old and heavy (like me!) think you have had some good advice there from others. The adaptors do the trick. Someone might have one you could buy, time will tell. Welcome to the forum.

Ok, I've identified my lathe, it's a Tyme 17-37, I think it was the first lathe they made, before the Avon, Cub and gem.
Anyway it has a different head stock thread to the other Tyme lathes: 3/4" 16 tpi, which is good.

It looks like:

Hopefully, that will help anyone else trying to identify a Tyme lathe.
