Hi Eddie and welcome.

I haven't read every word of the posts so might have been suggested and you're clearly an experienced turner so no criticism intended but just my thoughts and my experience.

If you're used to turning larger stuff and only recently trying pens it could as simple as applying too much pressure with the tools. It's very easy to deflect the mandrel slightly and it really is just a tiny fraction that makes the difference, try it and you'll see what I mean. Don't ask how I know!:goesred:
