I tend to make my pens with a smooth barrel, in other words having no step between the section/cap threads and the rest of the pen. It is a personal preference I have for holding the pen further up the barrel and sometimes the step present on many pens is a little bit in the way. This quirk of mine is thanks to my childhood art teacher who was a “high gripper” and who also had the most beautiful handwriting I’ve ever seen. I assumed that if I mimicked his grip then my writing would also develop like his. Suffice to say it didn’t...
One of the things about having no step is it naturally tends to result in slimmer pens as they’re generally straight or even tapered towards the end.
So I wanted to make a pen with no step but also with a bit of girth around the belly. The result is this. It tapers outwards immediately from the threads towards the centre and then back inwards towards the end. The section is tapered, rather than pinched, to follow the lines of the pen.
The final picture shows two versions, one with square ends and one with round ends.
Cheers
