How long do you use your bushings for before replacing?

I mostly use a skew, but will sometimes use a carbide tip once I have got it to round with the skew especially with acrylic.

A skew in the right hands will always give a better finish than a gouge and one that will need none or very little sanding but we will all do what fits our ability best

And that appears to sum it all up very neatly.

Adam - we all agree it's not your bushings - it's pilot error I'm afraid.:winking:

Why not just get a bit of wood no pens no
Bushings just practise with the tool until you get a real feel
for it.

It appears I break all the rules stated so far with chisels bit like telling a world class cricketer how to handle a bat. There is a right way to do everything however I never rely on the size of the bushes using them as spacers and a quick guide.

Might I say turning Palm Tree blanks and soft timber blanks soon teach the need for different techniques all explained above.

Treat the bushes well the results will improve. One thing I find helps I cut using scissors my sanding sheets into 1/2 inch strips giving me better control when sanding.
