JR Gents Kit Issue

I bought a number of Chrome plated JR Gents rollerball kits from China in July, when i came to make one up today the part that pushes into the top barrel had four glue spots which would have made it impossible to push into the tube. I took a look at some of the other kits i have and a number of these also show the problem, i guess i could scrape the glue off at a push but something this bad i would have thought that their QA team would have found this before packing ...

I bought a couple of the Jr Gent fountains recently.
I made one up today and had the opposite problem. The nib coupler didn't even touch the tube! I had to glue it in as it kept falling out.
Don't think I will bother with this kit again.

At last, what do you think I have been griping about and for how long.
So that you will steer clear and get the quality improved by not buying them.
Somebody will ask eventually why they are not selling?
For the benefit of all new turners the quality must improve and it's up to us to make it happen.
Vote with your feet, complain then walk away and don't return.

You have to complain about them Jim and get them to send you more for free with freight at their expense, but we know where that will go unless you ordered quite a lot of them. I have had a few from Timberbits with glue that I had to cut away. If that is the only problem and the rest of the kit is okay then it's easy enough to get it off even though you shouldn't need to do that, sure you could stop buying kits like Brian has, but he doesn't sell pens so it doesn't matter to him. If you get free replacements then great, but if you don't buy that kit from David. Let me know what happens.

PS. What QA team?

The supplier that Jim got these kits from is the same supplier that I too purchased some kits from recently. It is not timberbits! In my opinion this supplier is better than timberbits, the pen threads are better and are metal. This sort of problem is typical of oriental problem solving. They had a significant problem with the plastic threads separating from the metal components and this is the solution, drops of glue. Typically the operatives have done, probably, exactly what they were told, to find a solution to a problem without putting it in context.

Of the 50 kits I bought none have this problem and they are of a significantly superior quality that I sell them at a 20%premium to the tb kit which I sell on the stall! at the same time! upselling to the better kit named baron plus.

I think you should look again at the cap thread, in the ones I received they are still a plastic insert, when I asked them about the "adjusted" part of their blurb they said the plastic insert had been changed. I measured the Timberbits and the rihzeng kits the rihzeng kit inserts have slightly thicker walls, but they are still plastic.

The threads on the kits I have are metal, and to qualify what I wrote earlier, the comparison of the suppliers was specific to this kit only.

I will email them and ask about metal threads as the ones I have are plastic.

I have also had issues with over use of glue On Jr Gents, I have taken to inspecting every pen (not just Jr Gents) I use very carefully before I use it.

With regards to the metal thread in the Jr.Gents from Rizheng here is the reply

Sorry , we have no JR cap thread made by metal now.We also used metal threads before , but the center band was scratched easily , so we change it as acrylic threads. Now we use the thicker acrylic which can not be damaged easily.

I said this about all metal threads ages ago but what do I know I really dont understand why all of a sudden people want metal just do the plastic thread properly in the first place this is one of the reasons I stopped buying J G and now the barron poor quality fittings trying to cut the cost
