Mokume or Mokume-gane roughly translates to woodgrain metal.
It is the amalgamation of two or more metals folded into each other giving the effect it does.
Damascus steel is a popular and well known form.
We have had some knifes and maybe rings on the forum in the past.
The expense is justified in the manufacture process and claimed to be one of the toughest steels known to man when properly prepared.
Which area of Mokume are you interested in?

Seen before here is my knife.

i was just thinking as a one-off keeper..not as a seller..it is just my hobby

Yes Damascus steel.
I was given the blade and made the handle from Burr Elm scales.
You can buy the blade blanks on eBay etc but beware of fakes.
I buy mine from here they are lower end blanks but I don't know anyone with bags of dosh to dish out these days init?

It's lovely stuff, just a shame it is so expensive considering it is a composite plastic.

'They' insist it is NOT composite plastic. About 93% of it (if memory serves) is what it claims to be - atomised metal. The rest is there as a binder. Same principle as Trustone. Whether you believe that or not is another story ...

truestone is plastic with some mineral in it. Atomised metal, if they weren't so expensive I would buy one and dissolve it in Acetone then see how much metal is left. I really think there is some superb marketing going on there. When you look at the blanks for the knives I can understand the cost, but I don't understand it for the pen blanks apart from nobody has cracked how to make them yet, but when they do:bwink:
