Melanie if you persist with tubing as an old sparky with conduit I use a tube cutter that gives a fantastic cut,50X superior to bandsaw cutting,dead clean edges. Sold in hardware stores,electrical wholesalers.

This is a U.S. based company but there might be a UK equivalent. Perhaps the thin wall would be easier to remove. They have sizes from 5/8" to 4".
