Well I have been dong a bit of practice and chopped a few sticks up getting the feel of the knives etc.
My first real whittle was to make this detail knife for someone else who expressed an interest in sawblade knives.
A few pics of my first carving, I deliberately left the saw teeth at the back of the blade to prove it is a hacksaw blade.
Carved using my homemade knives shown in another thread a little rub with some scratch and a couple coats cellulose lacquer.
Sort of modelled on the Flexcut handle shape, not uncomfortable I can feel another one coming on init?

Thanks for the encouraging comments yes I have made many a knife but never even thought of carving a handle before now.

Forgot to mention it was scarfed from a 1 inch square blank of military ply.

Thanks I just subscribed to him so I can watch at my leisure init?
I have watched a few beginner vids and think I get the idea.
Whittling seems fine and relaxing rather than relief carving maybe I'll work up to that.

Jimi the ply came from the army barracks at Aldershot, my nephew got a load for me ages ago.
Enuf to build a bar inside his house a huge shed and deck out 3 gardens with patios.
Nearly all gone now I have two 4 X 4 sheets left, when they dry out I'll chop em up into pen blanks.
They have done the rounds before but will go again soon

Oh oh that is bloody superb Brian, I love it. Did you ever manage to cut up some of the ply you had into smaller chunks? I'd happily pay whatever it costs

Not yet mate, It's on the ground in my garden with all my logs stacked on it. been to wet or I ain't been strong enuf to lift it.
The weather is drying out this week, my son is visiting on Sunday I'll try and get him to give me lift with it.
You are at the top of the list when I get around to doing it, along with the Lord Woody hero and Blind veterans charities.
Then open to forum members, there should be plenty to go around.
I did send out quit a bit of it and seen little on here made up, it's tough going but not that tough and easy for the carbide tools.

Oh and thanks again for the lovely comments.

HaHa, nor me mate, artist I ain't, pi55 artist maybe a few years ago but I can't even do that any more.
I am very much a beginner with whittling but getting the feel of it slowly.
I am sitting in my lounge reading the cnc emc2 stepconfig setup and chucking chippings into a cardboard box, my Drain don't happy about it but I used to strip motorbikes in here so she remembers that and counts her blessings init?
At one time I had 4 washing machines 8 fruit machines and 5 juke boxes in here, she sat in the kitchen with the kids.
I started with mdf cos it has no grain as such then onto pine and now a lump of cherry, just chunked them away to nothing practising the four main cuts in different places.
Nothing artistic to show as yet but I have got a fresh branch I wanna put a green man on and make a stick of it, I have it marked out ready just not been brave enuf to make a stop cut yet.
It'll come for sure perseverance is the key for me I don't give in easily when I set my mind to something.
My dad called it stubbornness, Drain calls it pig ignorant.
