I understand why you want to keep it, it is also good to look at in the future and see how far you have come. when you are segmenting do you use a bandsaw or are you doing it by hand?

Peter

As I mentioned in my last post, my shop is actually a machine and fabrication shop for metal work. Only wood working machines I have is two of my own home build wood lathes and a mitre circular saw! All other process is carried by hand tools. I should be buying or building other machines in the very near future.

I must have missed your post about your machine and fabrication shop for metal work. It will be handy for you to make your own jigs and tools. If you have photos of your home built lathes please post them, it sounds intriguing.

Peter, my homebuild wood lathe was extensively discussed in Tools, Equipments and Accessories, page 11, under the posting: My workshop equipment: A lathe with very special features not found on other lathes. In this posting, there are a lot of photos and video clips showing the machine in operation. You are welcome to visit this posting and if you have any question, I will be most happy to dicussed with you.

As for my machine shop, I have used it to make all sort of tool or jigs, I have even started designing and fabricates other wood working machines. Incidentally, I am a trained design engineer specialising in metal working. Wood work is just my hobby.

Happy visiting my posting

Okay, I have seen your lathe before, but not on this forum, you posted that about a month before I joined this forum. Incredible engineering.

Other than the oversize Ed, it isn't a bad looking pen, i love the blank and the finish. A great attempt considering it is only the third pen that you have turned ..

Edward Lesson One from your pen and picture you are no mug or raw beginner and have much to impart to us penmakers. I put no stock in judging contrasted pics such as your pen when spurious reflections can give very false impressions of fit and turning, also the pic is incredible to be admired in every way as is your choice of one of Australias 800 Eucalypt Species the broad brush generic named Eucalypt Burl. Where I worked seems so long ago now was the centre of excellence for scientists who wrote the definitive book on Australian Eucalypts and having photographed so many of the identifying items leading to publication enabling positive naming ie the tree parts themselves the branches, fruits, blossoms leaves etc etc I personally am loathe to believing most of the hurriedly given names of so many pen blanks.

Welcome to the highly respected group of competent pen makers that exist on this forum from over here in Australia where I wish the winter was over right now.

Kind regards Peter.

Thank you for your comment, it will encourage me to further improve on my skill. Also, I am looking for burl Eucalyptus, do you know I can buy them?

Further note on the photography of this pen: this photo was taken using an old Nokia N72 mobile phone and with other special aids. :whistling:
