another attempt and this time it worked. i realized i was leaving just over 12mm before threading and thinking that it would help, but after reading in the comments to go just under that did the trick. Thanks so much to everyone who helped me. its why i love this forum.

Carefully following the sequences so glad with the help of Ed aqnd others you are now sorted. Ed was the black thread in pic one a form of acme tread it has a very flat top.?

The black threads I posted is Nikko ebonite. They are a bit rounded and not sharp peaks. That's from sanding :) Acme threads is a different angle.
