Yep, probably easier to ship you know what, or maybe they thought the pen tubes were for doing a line..:nonono:

Alex,

The debate is caused by the assessment of what the components are for the purpose of the imposition of import tax which is levied between 3 and 9 % on consignments over £135. If the components were assembled, they would be pens, if they are not assembled they can be assessed as engineering components, or spare parts etc and each will have a different import tax levy level. Anyway they aren't pens technically because they can't be used as such without further work or assembly.

Thats what I thought Neil and I take it that pens have a less tax than spares and can up to quite a lot when you're dealing in large shipments.

Have you contacted the company you bought them from to see how they classify them, what commodity code or HS code they use? I would have thought that once they have classified their goods, they should just use that code wherever in the world they ship. My Timberbits orders always say "pen parts", rather than stationery on the Customs sticker, so maybe that's what's confusing TNT, as they're component parts, rather than an obvious piece of stationery, which is probably down to the commodity code the company has used to classify the goods.

So.... Currently my manufacturer is dealing with TNT and I am waiting on a new import licence. I have been reliably informed by hmrc that this normally takes 2 to 3 working days so hopefully some movement today/ tomorrow.

I am very sorry for the delay.

Lets hope HMRC will settle on a code that doesn't cost more, you would think that the manufacturer had done this before, ask them for a discount for cocking up.
