I make loads of them and inner tube or plastic DPC is what I use. Better than hinges as it stops water getting into the box. I use screws to assemble though.

I suggested screws, but my wife wanted something they could do easily. We had one here for about 10 years so they did last.

Thinking about it Peter, screws are probably ott anyway as the boxes have a finite life time as they can't be treated or the birds won't use them.
