Due to all the issues with bushings and mandrels cause, I do all my turning, sanding and finishing between centers without bushings and measure components with calipers.
Never out of round.
No iron from the bushings get into the blank material.
No issues with bushing getting stuck on blanks ends when finishing with CA, etc.
No extra expense to purchase supplier bushings.
No 2 identical sets of components will measure exactly the same making any bushings useless.

I think its all been said. No bushes are exactly correct.
Some are worse than others and if you can turn between centres and use a micrometer that is the best way to go

You would be surprised how many pens are made out of round due to the bushes .. :goesred:

It's all been said and when I started, I bought a few bushes but they really are rubbish and for a long time now I haven't bothered.

Anyone capable of turning a pen also has the ability to make a set of bushes for the job in hand and can be made from many scraps of materials, wood acrylic, nylon acetal HDPE ( melted milk bottles ), brass, aloy etc. When they're worn then throw them away and spend 10 minutes making new ones. make a few sets of cones for polishing with CA and problem solved. Why risk all the cost and effort expended on a pen for the sake of a few minutes, surely a no brainer?
