What do you sell most of Acrylic or Timber pens?

For me, every sale ( at the moment) seems to be
Acrylics what ever happened to the love of natural
wood.

The fad for wood comes a goes I can remember about 50 years ago when Formica was the rage I built a sideboard out of Oak and some guy admired it saying wow its almost like plastic you can imagine what I said and we seem to be going back to that period sadly the same as you I sell more plastic pens than wood

I mainly make wood because that's what I want to do. I do now and again make an acrylic or corian and that is the first ones that are always looked at (after my shavings pen) but usually they buy a wood one. The whiskey barrel pens sell well because of the provenance attached to them as do most pieces with provenance but the wood is pretty featureless usually.

As a Joiner all my working life i used lots of different timbers, but the last thirty years
in came the plastics, Windows, Furniture and all the rest. Totally agree woody with you
Timber is more tactile and warm to the touch. What can their be better than that as apposed to cold plastic.

As long as you can smell the customers money, that's all that matters :whistling::whistling:

Most people buy pens for someone else , it would be nice to see the reaction of the actual recipient of the pen.
That would make me happy and worth more than anything
(and the money of course helps)

I sell wooden pens cos that's all I make. However Neil makes what people want and he is a lot more successful than me. Perhaps I should try this plastic stuff.

As you all know, I'm new to pen making. I've been turning for a while now, but only for pleasure. I've never sold anything I've made, they're always gifted. Is there much of a demand for pens and could one get rich selling them?

You are certainly not going to become rich, but you can get your money back and a bit more to allow you to carry on with an expensive hobby .. :bwink:

I do sell Acrylics, but i sell more Woods. And if you want to sell pens it is better to make for all your potential customers than those who just want wood .. I don't like Celery, but it wouldn't stop me selling it ..
