Like Jim I think you should go for kits that aren't already available in the UK, If you don't need to order 100s of each kit then even the strange kits will sell as nobody else has one.

Dan,

Its a lovely pen, but to sell it they are going to have to let you sell it at a direct dollar/pound conversion. Jim Kerins from Glasgow and others are selling this 1:1, ie $35 dollars becoming £35. Now whose going to buy it, pen turners who, turn for a hobby, pen turners who make occasionally to order for sale or turners who sell more frequently. A minimum starting point for the commercial sale (I did say commercial sale!) and perhaps greater volume than other market sectors, would be as a multiple of 5. They need to hit the streets at a max of around £27.50, any more than this and the volume through your books might leave you with stock gathering dust. As it is more than likely not manufactured anywhere near the States, perhaps they should wake up and serve their overseas distribution network by allowing them to order direct from their source and pay a commission and avoid the unneccessary surcharge of US Tax and Customs. Thy might be able to pick up some incremental business to fuel their profit forecast that way, but then again thats probably radical thinking.

Sorry, shutting up know and getting off the soap box.

I like your soap box Neil. With the prices I have been quotes I would be looking to put them out as you say. $35 or £26-£28.

I think you could be right. I'd not thought of it like that. The way this is looking I will probably be purchasing a number of kits in 10s to see how different kits sell.

While I think there are some very nice pens there Dan and you would probably be able to command the market in the UK, I like the idea of buying pens from you that I can't get anywhere else and they are your pens, you're in charge and you say what happens. I would buy some from you but would the money you invest not be better in buying another TM kit?

Just my opinion of course and I would buy them from you regardless

The only issue with the TM kits is the largest investment and sitting on large stock levels to allow me to get the kits produced. I do want to keep the TM kits moving forward but I feel I need to complement the kits without stocking the usual standard kits.

In that sort of quantity I imagine you will not have a problem selling them all, no matter how strange, there is always someone who wants something different no matter how ugly.

Always interested Dan. I really like the Vertex and have had a few but there are several places in the UK where it can be bought. Haven't seen the pencil however so could swing in your favour if you offered both.

On the subject of pricing in the UK its very difficult for us to contemplate the customs VAT cum freight packing handling from over here it for me is a case of seeing people like yourselves making the bank for other people. Been in business well aware of the stresses perfectly happy not to need wholesalers any more, all the best Peter.:fingers:

This is true, i have seen some kits on here that was bought from CSUSA, and thought they were gross .. Until i bought a couple and saw how well made they were and no matter how well the picture looks, it never looks as good when in the hand. The Goth pens i have shown to visitors goes don really well .. But i would buy anymore of this kit, but would be tempted to try others for my collection..

Good luck with it Dan, this is what the majority of us would hope happen when these forums started out .. You Phil and Davey can bring the quality to us here in the UK as we see over in the States ..You have the backing from this forum that for sure ..

Dan if you were to post for example 6 different kits and take orders in advance it would give you a idea how many to order I think many on here would snap them up:thumbs:

At a glance these would be nice to get hold of, Knights Armor Pen Kits, Celtic Pen Kits, Southwest Pen Kits and Victorian Pen Kits
