Those are absolutely fabulous, I'm not surprised you have a queue.

I have a source of big cones so I must have a bash at that.

How long after soaking them do you apply the CA?

Peter,
After soaking do you somehow dry them before ca/turning/drilling??

All I do is turn them upside down so that excess water runs off, maybe about 20 minutes and then cut a flat on the bandsaw (careful of those fingers), once you have 1 flat it's easy to cut the other 3 flats. If they are soaking wet I dry them off with kitchen towel and immediately CA them making sure that the CA is flowing downward into the (for want of a better word) petals. once the CA has gone off I put them in the chuck and drill a 5mm hole to aid drying. Leave them to dry for a couple of days and then with the cone blank upright I drizzle CA in and let it dry and drill it to size. My first one I didn't bother to drill it and let it dry, i just drilled it and glued the tube in, it was fine until I got to almost finished size and something flew out and I had half an inch of brass tube showing, i glued it back in and it wasn't noticeable. Be aware that you will get seeds and some of them you will turn off and you will be left with seed sockets, you can fill then with whatever you want.

You are lucky if you have a source of the big ones. let me know how long they are and how thick the core is, also if you know which species they are.

If the water will drain off so that they are not dripping then you can either square them off and the CA them or CA them then square them off, I tend to saw them first then apply CA straight away.

Thanks Jim, but still not turning, these were some of the last ones I did, probably around December. I had almost given up, but this week something has changed and I have no pain and can move my arms freely, so I am hopeful that this weekend I will have a try.

Just a word or two of caution to anyone trying the cones, I use a skew to get them round, but I have also used a roughing gouge, but it is absolutely imperative that it is as sharp as possible, a blunt gouge will cause break out of the "petals". I also only go in one direction with the skew, you don't want the skew to go under a "petal" or you will lose those "petals". I can't remember why I know these things, so no point in asking
