Would I be right in thinking, having seen the packs of clay on the Hobbycraft website, that you have to roll out the colours you want to use then cut out the shapes you want and meld them together sort of? It's got to be quite thick I presume to be enough to turn down to the thickness required for the pen? And do you wrap the clay around the brass tube before it's baked in the oven? And what sort of time and what temperature does it need to be baked for and at?
Sorry for all the questions I just trying to get my head around this.
You've seen the vids so thats covered, I cut thin slices and pressed gently onto a roughened tube. Then roll it like a sausage to fill in any gaps, you'll probably end up about 1 mm proud of your bushes Use the bushes as a guide when you roll.
Thenbake at 110 deg C for about 25 - 30 mins, let it cool in the oven if you can, less chance of it cracking.
Then turn with VERY sharp tools, it's like butter even though it's hard (makes sense?) I used a skew and the finish was good enough to give once over with 800 then a CA finish as normal.
Polish with burnishing cream to get a shine on the CA.
Hope that helps.
The cane is the hard bit, but a bit of practice is all it takes.
