I have been using a 6" bench grinder and a whetstone wheel for the last year or three at home. At the club they have three Proedge. I like them but the price has put me off till now. On long grinds the concave grind from a wheel is counter productive, which at the club is not an issue. So reading previous threads, the comments are generally very positive, would the proedge users agree?

Wish I'd have thought of this before Harrogate, but hey ho. Quick search on tinterweb sees G&S beating Oliver woodturning on package price. So unless there's a January sale on, it might well be on the shopping list. Where did you find the best price?

Take a guess
Just shop round John, I know Snainton were doing a good deal on the Proedge a few months ago.

I never regretted buying mine & would buy another in a heart beat.

Bought mine from Turner's Retreat and have not regretted it. Tool sharpening is a doddle and it also does a good job squaring up the end of blanks in lieu of a barrel trimmer.

I got my proedge this month and it is fab, there's no guessing angles or hollow grinds, overheated blue cutting edges, so i would say get one. If you can hang on until Newark, or Turners next open day a bargain can be had but as Doug said, Snainton have a good price.

I was sharpening free hand on a grinder thats wet and dry for more years than I care to remember but a few years ago I had to give up turning and sold everything anyway cut a long story short a year latter I was told I could carry on so I had to buy a complete workshop all over again and my wife got me the pro edge and I wouldn't change it for the world it is by far the best sharpening system I have ever used mine come from turners retreat

You'll find that you sharpen your tools more often as it's so easy

Would be interested to know what peoples favourite grit / belt is ?

Had one got rid, while it is useful for tools it is too limited for everything else I do.
I now use the emco star for just about all my sharpening and grinding / cutting, best tool I ever bought init?

I think that's half my problem, I'm poor at touching up as needed at home, whereas at the club I just go do it.

So proedge users. Questions

1. Aox, Zirconium or Ceramic. I have watched Oliver Woodturning videos. But what do users find gives better service life?

2. Which grit. I was thinking 60 to shape. 120 to finish. 240 as mentioned touch up. What works for you?

Cheers all in advance.
