I mentioned in another post that my little metal lathe was having a couple of hard days so I took some pics of today's play init?
P1100221.jpg

I had been to the steelworks earlier in the week to get some 20mm round bar for this project but all they could find was a high strength galvanized structural tensioning bolt 24mm diameter 1 metre long so I took it.
Chopped off what I needed for the project and there weren't much left of it when I finished.

Project was to make adapters for my chucks to go on the Emco like this.

P1100223.jpg

The moshene has a M14 thread on the spindle so I need to up that to ¾ X 16 tpi UNF 55°.
I need 8 in total if I want one in each chuck so I made 10 and have a couple for other use or spares, first one was easy as it was soft steel, from this

Plenty of swarf in the tray and that is just today's mess.

P1100232.jpg

Also made a load of spacer rings / shims for backing other fittings on the spindle.

Well I can definitely say it has earned it's money over the last couple of days and I am impressed by its performance.
I now have 10 adapters and a bundle of spacers for the cost of zilch init?

It can go back to alloys now poor thing.

That looks a very useful bit of kit Brian :thinks:

Now can I fit one in the workshop & can I get it in there without Margaret finding out :whistling::whistling:

For a Chinese bit of kit I have to say it is surprisingly accurate and fit for purpose.
This is the weaker model and although I have adapted it many times and put it back to original I have never touched the motor and it still keeps chugging away.
A few simple marks make realignment easy, quick and reliable.
I have turned wood and all sorts on this thing.

I know dad I have some of you made init?

This bolt was a bugger for the poor little thing it was tearing rather than cutting but did the job and I am happy to be able to use what it produced.

It is great when you push a machine to its limits, and it survives .. :winking:

Well done Brian, the little un has done you proud. I've had an Elliott Unimat since 1972 & it's still going strong.

As I said above it started tearing rather than cutting, I had a feeling something wasn't right but didn't know what.
Everything seemed OK at the top end but on strip down today it became apparent.

One of slide shear plates had a hairline crack in it and the plate was bent out of shape very slightly.
Took it out and came away in two parts, so I didn't get away unscathed poor little thing init?

I have made another from a weather strip I had laying around as a temporary measure, so it works again to give the parts a finish.
You may want to bookmark this link where I have ordered new parts from in case you need any.

Well considering the beating you gave it, only having very minor damage ain't bad. And as you say mate, all those adapters and spacers, and a repair for nowt. Can't beat that:thumbs:
