Two Mach3 razors..JPG

Hi, Guys,

Re razors (carrying on from my thread of the other day...) I've just made a couple of Mach3 types using acrylic blanks. Crap photo as one is chrome and the other is gold, although you wouldn't know it looking at the piccy!

Grits to 600, and four coats of friction polish. The bushes for these kits must have been designed/made by someone suffering from a sight defect as they are at least 2mm too big for the finials. Check out the bottom one.)

The other things you won't see due to my camera work is that each handle is shaped, and the black/white has three rings at the handle-end.

Each razor and blank cost me about a Tenner + grits, power, etc. Any idea what I can sell them for? I'm considering buying some blades as I feel that the handles would then be more attractive (?)

Your comments, please, chaps.

Bob.

SNAP, I've made one and was wondering the same thing... how much to charge. I was thinking £25.

All the ones I've done have been pressies for family so can't help on price I'm afraid.

The problem is you are competing against "cheap" stuff available in 99p shops :sob:

At a craft fair might be different I guess, although Merv Cadman has his advertised at extortionate amounts, but I don't know him to know if they sell at that price.

Walter or some of others who know him might know ?

PS They do look nice !

Hi, Paul,

Were you thinking £25.00 including the stand?

I'm with you there, Phill, on trying to compete with the crap 99p stuff - no way that can be done!

Yes Bob, I've never seen these for sale and don't know what they would command. Maybe Neil has made some and would give a bit of a guiding hand?

Good thinking, Paul.

I've got a Xmas Fair booked for Saturday and at the moment I intend slipping each razor into a velvet, single-pen sleeves ex Axminster, as I do my pens. A bit problematical though if I go ahead and supply a blade - what does one with that? If a geezer slips one in his pocket he could end up with an inadvertent circumcision! LOL!

Jeez, just seen Woody and Phill's post - I dunno how they get away with it!

Bob.

That's point though we don't know that they actually sell that many at that price. It might be loads, it might be 1 or 2 a year.

At 160 quid plus, I'd settle for 1 a month every month.

Woody mentions Rod Neeps in his post. Go to the link he gives and explore this guy's site - he's a brilliant maker of all the stuff you see there. Well worth a minute or two of your time, guys!

Aint got a clue on price. Was looking at these to add as something to sell, but the markup would put it around the 25 - 30 quid mark:nooidea: might make one and see if i get any interest.
Whatever you sell them for, don't do yourself out of pocket.
Good luck:thumbs:

Amazing your original request for help with pricing has resulted for me thinking at least double my cost if I was feeling the water in this case I would make some as presents photograph them as samples then you have lost nothing had fun if your to get serious I followed the Neep site and learned a great deal about the possibilities and the many wrinkles or special tips that can be gained from his display and techniques any guessing on the turnover for him is water under the bridge. His work is superb his outlay great.

Make several and have some in the economy range for £25.00-£30.00 and some in the elite range £35.00-£45.00

I sold mine for £25 each without blade. Would be £30 with as blades ain't cheap!

Anyone interested should google razors / shaving as there are forums and sellers out there catering to a niche market. Some of the "branded" handles are expensive and in Perth last week I saw quite a few with cheapest at around GBP 40 with most expensive an eye watering £420.

I personally don't view them as competition for the cheap plastic crap but as unique handcrafted items no different to the pens we make. Only way to know if they sell to your target audience is to try but my view is that a variety of products must surely be of benefit if only to draw attention to other items.

Just had a thought, what about a pink handle for the ladies:thinks:
