I was speaking to Vic Perrin about turning poplar, and mentioned the wood I had acquired when Highland Council cut down two perfectly healthy, and locally iconic poplars on the grounds of health and safety.

I made a series of these about a year or more ago, which I called "rescued from the Ashes" and which I made sure gained lots of exposure locally as my little protest, so I thought I'd post a piccy here, given that I almost never post piccies.

As I say, it's poplar with a natural edge, about 10" diameter, turned green, heavily scorched then overstained in red, then flames carved which in turn were stained. It's finished with hot wax.

I like this, it is well made, is different & means something to you other than just a turned bowl.

Sure proved a point on this one Phil its very difficult to follow the reasoning of Council decisions in our place a form of blight knocks them around after they get older.

The shaping and colouring says it all.

Love it. Bet it's a brilliant conversation piece when people visit.

I detest the local authorities, some of the officers are like little Hitlers.:rolling:

A gorgeous bowl with a lovely design and provenance Phil. A lot of work has gone into that and it was very worth while.

Thanks very much for your comments guys.

Bet it's a brilliant conversation piece when people visit.
Actually, it's hopefully a conversation piece in a few houses - I made a series of 6 of them, 5 of which I sold and this one I kept.
