Dead right, I've been grubbing about in the dark spider ridden corners of my workshop (garage) and found 2 x 10 packs of Kingwood, 1 x 10 pack Ebony, and another 10 pack where the label is missing. All from Craft Supplies many, many moons ago, just over £3 a pack.

Well knowing what used to come out of craft supplies, it should be dry by now.

In all fairness to craft supplies they always sold there wood as P/S and at one time they were the best suppliers around with the best selection of woods, tools and machines for woodturners

I agree with you wholeheartedly Woody, I've yet to get through some red resin wood and some other weird pieces I picked up from them. It was always enjoyable poking around their shelves and getting the store man to point you in the direction of the hidden stocks. I had placed an order for some of their olive wood packs when they sold out which was disappointing because I never managed to get hold of them.

Yes I used to love delving in there wood store and could guarantee I would find at least 1/2 doz species that weren't listed at one time they were giving £25 bags of wood away if you spent X amount and one bag had 3 Thuya burr 6" x 2" bowl blanks as well as a good mixture of other woods was I well pleased

Woody, enjoyed wandering through history there used to be a bloke in Kentucky where I bought 150 blanks of this sort of mix some of it very rare and precious and so I asked him to label the parcel as wood pen blanks and number them sending by E Mail a key or list of the names, this he duly did and I formed quite a friendship with him. This was on another forum where he was ridiculed by ideots who in their wildest dreams would never even hear of most of his timbers the first and worst ones were those with vested interests in selling their blanks. It reminds me of fishing there are those who poison the water to stun fish no good intentions. My pen turning started when the only kits were Slimlines in the 80,s and I still feel there is so much more to making them than the one piece hardly held together ones.

Thanks for showing your pens Woody I really appreciate how well you turn them and these days your pics as well. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear something is difficult or not done is lets see now. Made my recent ones in the last few days dozens more to come.

Kind regards Peter.:thumbs:

To true, you wouldn't dare turn any wood from them until you'd had it stored away for months, if not years. Yet they did sell some nice woods, and always had a good selection of species, being honest I still miss popping up there a few times a year, it was a good trip out for the day.

Also found some perfume kits, about 8 slim kits, and a pack of 5 which I think are what is called Euro kits, again all from Craft Supplies. Another find was some sand glasses for sand timers, 9 x 38mm watch faces, 10 Oval watch faces, and a few square ones. Also some hinge rings for making boxes.

Jeez, half this stuff I didn't know I had, and what's worse is I don't remember buying some of it.

Said in an earlier thread about best place to buy kits, don't think I'll bother for now and just use the stuff I have until the weather gets better. Then I want to have a go at some casting, so will be back with loads more questions.:winking:

See it all comes to us eventually - the old age syndrome 'Brain Farts'.

If you answer Yes to these or know this happens...

1. What was I going to do or I know I had to do something here?
2. Yes luv. Of course I remember.
3. Where did I put that?
4. Can't remember buying that!

Brain Farts..... :mooney2::mooney2::mooney2::oldman::oldman::oldman:
