The glass insert is to stop the wood burning when the candle gets hot

I use the glass insert because I'm concerned that a hot tea light might affect the wood?

It a good idea as there no point risking it when you can buy the inserts from Ikea for about 26p

They are £2 for 12 which is a bargain from IKEA and tealights are £1.75 for 100!
