Having just started to turn pens I have been busy reading this forum on how to produce a good pen. Thanks.
I've spent a long time visiting suggested sites for components.

I want to make pens for friends which are topical to their hobbies or life.
My son is a production manager working in the oil fields of Canada, so I would like to make a pen for him with
an industrial theme. Likewise another topic is an environmental type pen.

My question to our forum is, have you any suggestions or where would be a good place to purchase the kits?

Dave

Keith hit the nail on the head. Don't turn to kits to theme it for you, make the pen so it relates.... like soldering together the lattice work of an oil rig tower, which acts as a pen holder... cogs and gears are another way to go if you want to leave the stand out..

environmental is quite a broad term.

You can go as deeply as you wish. Make a Re Bar Pen the simple effective Pen with a Punch. Utilise a Slimline Kit.

Thank you Keith, Brad and Penpal, transfers, not thought of that, will have to read up on that one. I like the oil rig idea, have to think abou that one. The rebar pen looks good, was that a kit? (total innocence here).

No an offcut from a steel place cheap as drilled out and brass sleeves fitted as per usual. There are two types of Rebar one for straight runs, one for bending, seek out the bending one. I was prompted to pioneer these after a huge construction outside our home many years ago where they used tons of Rebar. The Steelies were most cooperative and I made pens for them to say thanks, then sold a few.

Themed pens are winners and grinners IMHO.

Peter.
