This is what I call a cheap pen. The kit was supplied by Jim. The Olive blank was supplied by Neil Lawton and the satin polish is a new one called D and M and was supplied by Walter. Thanks gents for being so kind. And to top it all I used my new carbide tool which Woody kindly made for me !!!! LOL

This new satin polish from Walter is excellent if you like a satin finish and you only have to put 2 coats on. You put it on like CA but you don't need an activator and the finish is like CA albeit in satin. No polishing is required and to top it all there are no nasties or sticky fingers !!!!

Nice pen I tried the dm stuff to day and I am not overly impressed with it I had to take it off and put friction polish on in the end

Lovely cheap pen Terry.
I am not to keen on satin finishes I like to see a goodly shine, shows it's been worked instead of half finished.
Nice touch with the bead I like that.

Nice work Terry!! Love the shape and might have to investigate that finishing product further.:thumbs:

It may not be everyone's cup of tea Brody because of the satin finish but once you apply it you don't have to micromesh it like you would CA and it is probably as hard wearing.
I am open minded on it at the moment but is easy to apply. The downside is there is a drying time of 5 minutes between coats and 10 minutes after applying the second coat which seems like an eternity when you're waiting !!!!

Terry I feel happy to have seen you change direction and try decorating a slimline playing with design.Hard to imagine the finish from the descriptions but I can see the comparison. Just as there are Plastic...Timber nuts there will be Polish....Matte nuts a famous mate of mine in Canada a supremo pen maker plus incredible craftsman often uses 0000 steel wool to cut back brilliant polish to semi matte very successfully he often uses dipping techniques as well. When I was a Photographer I used to buy 20 litres of a laquer developed (pun intended) for photographs that could be obtained in six grades of cut from full gloss to full matte. When sending out 500 pics via the little monsters (darlings) they the photographs had an even chance of arriving home looking great or could be wiped over with a damp cloth.

My mate here or in the bush near here fast forward 40 yrs I told him about the laquer and he sprays all his finished work as a pro turner then polishes everything in a few mins with Black Bison polish. I used this method with all burl bowls and a horse hair brush on a small drill press. The laquer is fool proof can be applied with a vibrator electric spray gun wiped off with their thinners if like our pics dropped and start again.

Having made one pen this way look forward to other variations.

Kind regards Peter.:claps:

Nice work Terry, I'll have a go with my sample next week and hope it turns out as good as yours.
