Tube/pen identification?

There is a chapter on them in 'Turning Pens and Pencils' by Christensen & Burningham, which was first published in 1999, so they must go that far back....and beyond.

They go back a lot more than that Ed and they were almost £7 each

Again, I think I have some old CS catalogs that date back to early 90's somewhere and they were in there then if I remember rightly.. SWIMBO will go daft if I start to unearth much more stuff.. Just got that look when I asked where it was..

Well Jim you have taken us down memory lane for some of the oldies on here..

Anyway, I hope you have fun making it, but as others have said, unless you have done some pen turning before I would hold back on them and make a few slimlines..

Yes that is correct. I saw one once, not sure when but I think it was in the British Museum.

Axminster still sell these for the Miller dowel system. Three different sizes. Might be worth checking the sizes with them to see if any of them would do the job:

The dns-twister pen kits that Phil Irons used to sell also used a stepped drill. They seem to have disappeared too.
