Hi everyone, well I finally got my lathe up and running, so thank you to everyone who gave me pointers on where had them in stock. After a couple of trial pens, I turned this one, I wish that I had been a bit braver and turned it a little thinner, but I’ll remember next time. Hand cast alumilite.

Thanks everyone. I decided to cast the blank in pvc pipe to avoid having so much work to do on the lathe....but forgot to think about a release spray, ended up having to hacksaw the pipe off, but I think it was worth it! I have another 3 waiting to be discovered!

Well that’s the other 3 finally cut out of their moulds, I really want to turn a kitless fountain pen with one of them, but I think that’s for the future....

fantastic pen do you also write with the pens as well flourish hand writing or copperplate.

this is also one of the reasons I started turning pen but I must admit I'm stuck turning Fountain pens both kit and kitless I have some nibs and nib holders ready to make some oblique dip pens. any way thats much more than I was going to say lol

I actually got into making them because I wanted to learn copperplate and couldn’t find a decent penholder in the U.K. Then the penmaking took over and I never actually learned the calligraphy properly! How about you?

Well, I’m the opposite, I’m making oblique pens but I’d really like to move into doing fountain pens as well. I’ve done kit pens in the past, so may well start with those soon, but I’d love to be able to do kitless....however my turning isn’t accurate enough :rolling:

Thank you Bill, that’s very lovely of you....unfortunately I’m no longer up in the north east, I moved down to Suffolk a couple of years ago, hence not making pens for a while!

I didn’t realise you’d moved. I’m sure someone local will help if you need it. You seem to be doing very well as you are.
