I had an email from the guy who's birthday it was and was getting the bowl as a present. This is the text from an email he sent me yesterday.

"Hello Steve,

Many thanks for the wonderful wassail cup you made for Dan & co to give me on my birthday yesterday.

It is an absolutely lovely present and so beautiful to look at and hold!

It will be on display for all my friends and relations to admire, and we will be using it for wassailing here soon.

I feel privileged to have such a work of art made just for me!"

I was quite chuffed when I read that. It's always a worry that someone might not like something that's been turned specially.

I would find it hard to believe that anyone who received that bowl wouldn't be amazed at it, it really is a beauty.

A very justified text Steve, its a lovely bowl and anyone would be proud to own it. Do you know what the cider company is? or is it private? Whatever it should help to bring in lots of big apples

Wassial Bowl

I'm not sure what you mean about a cider company Paul. It was just a piece that someone commissioned for a birthday present. Good job I didn't go with the Oak!!!!

Oh Wow, that has split, but it would look good laced up like Woody has done on a few of his bowls.

Wassailing is a tradition for ensuring a good cider harvest and part of the ritual, along with shooting a piece of bread in one of the apple trees is to drink wassail from the wassailing cup. Thatchers do it every year and at £60m turnover for last year its worth doing

Maybe I should do another and approach Thatchers!! I still haven't had a chance to get to the Weston Club. I've been working every meeting they've had since you told me about it. I think I'll have to take a leave day for the next one.

The March meeting will be an interesting one Steve with a Demo from Keith Fenton demonstrating the Crush Grind salt and pepper pots. We are also going to be affiliated to the AWGB as of April and the membership is only going up by £5 so will be even more worth while joining

Yes, just turn up Steve, it'll be good to see you. 19:00 at the football stadium (if you didn't know). I'll be there.
