I am referring to all the woods, you have uniform dark lines on the light woods and light lines on the dark woods.
This is indicative of sanding material filling the grain.
It's a fundamental mistake many of us make in our early days but if not pointed out we can carry on not knowing what or why it is happening.
When you finish your cuts, before sanding seal the wood with some ca or sanding sealer, that will clog the pores of the grain with clear sealer and stop the dust entering.

Very nice Wayne. Its always going to be difficult when mixing dark and light woods, try to sand from the light to dark so that you don't fill the grain with dark dust.

How is showing a clean bit o wood gonna help him? Better he or anyone else comes to my shed and I will happily demonstrate the difference, nothing that anyone can't do.
Otherwise giving a solution in explanation is a result surely?

Wayne confounding us is beaut the sales result is excellent mate let the buyer decide carry over often occurs for me when I use very fine wet and dry as a dry sanding the dye in the holding of the grit sometimes migrates on me from dark to light. Bought a few different blanks from a guy in the US crazy cut and well glued for me it was hard to tell how they would look on the finished pen. Harking back to Woodies many such pens they have been excellent as well as others perhaps a browse in his pics would assist his variations are many and various.
